The most common Daikin problems, what causes them, and how to fix them — from your local NJ Daikin pros.
Daikin is the world’s largest HVAC maker and a leader in ductless and inverter technology. Daikin systems self-diagnose and display an alphanumeric code.
On Daikin mini-splits we commonly see U4 communication faults and refrigerant-related (U0) codes that require a certified tech. Below are the issues we see most on Daikin systems, what usually causes them, and what you can safely check before calling a pro.
Common causes are dirty indoor filters, low refrigerant from a leak, a dirty outdoor coil, the wrong mode or temperature on the remote, a blinking error light, or a blocked outdoor unit. Clean the indoor filters (about monthly), confirm the remote mode, and check for a blinking light or error code. If it still won’t cool or heat, call us at 609-665-3022.
A blinking OPERATION or TIMER light is the unit reporting a fault — most often a communication/wiring error or a refrigerant problem. Read the error code, then call us — mini-split faults almost always need a technician.
Usually a clogged or kinked condensate drain line, an improperly sloped line, a dirty unit, or a cracked drain pan. Turn the unit off to avoid water damage and call us — clearing and re-sloping the drain is a routine fix.
Ice usually means low airflow from dirty filters or a dirty coil, low refrigerant, a weak fan, or running heat in extreme cold between defrost cycles. Turn the unit off to let it thaw and clean the filters. Persistent ice points to an airflow or refrigerant problem — call us.
Common causes are dead remote batteries, a tripped breaker, no power to the outdoor unit, or a communication error. Replace the remote batteries and check the breaker. If it still won’t start, call us.
Dirty filters or a dirty coil restrict airflow, and a musty smell is usually mold or mildew on the coil from trapped moisture. Clean the filters and run fan-only to dry the coil. For a deep coil cleaning or a lasting smell, call us.
